Simple Present — Common Mistakes

Learn to use simple Present — Common Mistakes to build clearer English sentences.

Let’s understand it

Check the subject first. Then check whether do or does is already present. The verb be has its own forms: am/is/are.

The building rule

With ordinary verbs, V5 belongs in positive he/she/it statements. After does/does not, use V1.

See it in a sentence

He play cricket. ✗ → He plays cricket. ✓

They plays cricket. ✗ → They play cricket. ✓

She don’t eat rice. ✗ → She doesn’t eat rice. ✓

He doesn’t goes. ✗ → He doesn’t go. ✓

Does she likes tea? ✗ → Does she like tea? ✓

I goes to school. ✗ → I go to school. ✓

I am ready. She is ready. Are you ready?
