The building rule

and adds; but contrasts; because gives a reason; so gives a result.

I like tea and coffee.

I rest because I am tired.

Connect ideas for a reason

Use and for addition, but for contrast, or for alternatives, so for a result and because for a reason.
Later choose however, therefore, whereas, as a result, for example and on the other hand only when their meaning fits. More connectors do not automatically make better writing.
